The government has announced its preferred route for a Lower Thames Crossing as a bored tunnel which will run under the River Thames east of Gravesend and Tilbury.
The announcement follows a public consultation which received more than 47,000 responses in 2016. The responses have been analysed and the options reviewed by Highways England. Following this, the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, announced on the 12 April 2017 the government’s decision. The full statement can be read online at the government’s New Lower Thames Crossing news story webpage.
There is also more detail available about the preferred scheme and the progress of the project online at Highway’s England Lower Thames Crossing project page.
