Kentish Flats Extension

Port of Sheerness used by Vattenfall UK on Kent Flats Extension

Vattenfall UK constructed a major offshore wind farm off of the Kent coast.  The foundations and two monopoles/cages were delivered using the Port of Sheerness in early May 2015.

The foundations were delivered two at a time by barges from Antwerp, which were then moored in the harbour.  The two monopoles/cages are then collected by the Neptune, a crane vessel operated by GeoSea, and taken out to the construction site.

The Swedish-state owned company said that the Kentish Flats Extension, which cost more than £150 million to build, was the only offshore wind farm to be built offshore in UK waters in 2015.

The Port of Sheerness’ part in this project, illustrates the importance of the transpiration hub to Kent and the wider region.
